A Brief History
The foundation stone for the present Church of Malankara Catholics was laid in the year 1974. The first
vicar of the Parish was Rev. Fr. George Jacob. In May 1979, the newly built church was blessed by
Rev. Fr. Benedict Mar Gregorious. A new school began in the year 1974 with 21 students and 3 teachers.
Rev. Fr. Koshy Varghese - present Auxiliary Bishop of Thiruvananthapuram took charge as the Assistant
Vicar and Principal of the said school in June 1982. In December 1993 the Church was expanded and
reconstructed and blessed by His Excellency Lawrence Mar Ephrem. Mar Gregorious College was
started in July 1994 and affiliated to the University of Madras.
